A NEW SERVICE for registered patrons is the creation of requests off campus through the Internet.
After filling the form click "Submit". The data of the user and the item requested will appear with the message: "We received your request, thank you." At the same time the user gets an e-mail stating: "Your request has been accepted by the system. Please wait for the operator's message." The operator will soon send a pre-calculation to the user about the expected costs. On receiving confirmation by the user the operator will then start executing the order.
The service is available for registered patrons if they are looking for books or articles in journals which are not in our holdings. On request the library borrows documents from other libraries in Hungary, or from abroad with the help of the Országos Széchenyi Könyvtár (National Széchenyi Library) or the Országos Műszaki Információs Központ és Könyvtár (National Technical Information Centre and Library).

Hungarian sound newsreel on NAVA
Since November 5th2009 the Hungarian World Newsreel, i.e. the Hungarian sound newsreel, has been made accessible to users on http://filmhiradok.nava.hu . This contains the collection of newsreels from the first 12 years - 1931 - 1943.
The 5183 items, restored and digitized by the Hungarian National Film Archives (MNFA) give a detailed account of an important era of the 20th century, rich in historic turning points. Besides showing the representative events of contemporary public life, we also get an insight into everyday life.
All items of film news have a detailed description on the new World newsreel webpage: in the database of Film Newsreels Online the contents can be arranged and viewed according to topic, person, location or language. The items were tagged with keywords based on educational and historical research; furthermore, each and every word of the soundtrack is accessible for search. Visitors to the website can watch the movies in very good quality after clicking on the flash player in the browser.
NAVA is planning to compile further material about important events and memorable years and add them to the existing collection on http://tematikus.nava.hu.
Currently the following collections are accessible:
- "Historic Octobers": The events of the 1956 revolution through individual life stories, the first legally permitted commemorations of the revolution 33 years after in 1989/1990.
- "A team is needed": Short Hungarian film history. The most outstanding films of the past 50 years can be found in this collection.
- "Heaven and earth": This collection gives insight into celestial and earthly wonders, atmospheric phenomena, discoveries, as well as the lives of explorers and adventurers of space.
- "Tamás Cseh in memoriam": Selection of TV programs in remembrance of Tamás Cseh, singer and song writer, who died on August 7th, 2009.
- "Selection of folk tales ": An interesting collection from the magic realm of folk tales.
- "Nyugat": Programs about the periodical Nyugat and writers/poets connected to it.
In November 1999 the library obtained permission from the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission to open an independent European Documentation Centre (EDC). Ten institutions are members of the organisation in Hungary. The EDC is situated in the building of the Central Library.
With the assistance of the organisation our institution regularly receives publications published in foreign languages. The library holds all publications issued by the institutions of the European Union, e.g. decrees, statistics, economic and political studies, analyses, etc. These publications offer a full insight into the life of the European Union. Through them, one can get acquainted with its institutions and their responsibilities; reports, statistics and summaries of existing and candidate member states are available.
A significant part of the holdings includes publications in English, but there are also guides and other publications on the EU in Hungarian procured by the library.
Currently the library receives about 91 periodicals through the EDC. They are for on-site use only.
Books and other non-seasonal publications can be found on the European Union shelf (E13) in the reading room of the library. As the items are stored together users can get a quick overview of the stock.
